This is a new section of Ricci’s website for all of you fans that haven’t been able to get to the shows yet or have been and might just want to relive it a bit. My name is Joanne and my page here is to make you feel a part of the whole experience. I still recommend everyone see the show personally to get a real feel but I’ll try and make you feel as if you were there!
This will be your journey into life on the road with Ricci and the “Pack”!

July 14th, 2010 Milwaukee, WI.

Here I am getting ready to board my flight from Ontario CA to Milwaukee. I’m actually a part of the crew this trip! While Bobby Fig and I visited Ricci at his home a few weeks ago he decided I should be an official tour member this trip. I get to be in charge of recording the new cd. Yes Ricci is actually entrusting me to this great task that all of you will hopefully enjoy for years to come. I will do my best. I’m feeling that now that I’m officially going on the road as a working employee or as Jimi calls me one of the boys, that  I should get a luggage tag! Yes I did ask Ricci for one and he said I could have one but I think he was just trying to be nice and to get me to leave him alone. I’m still waiting Mr. Martin!
We are coming from all over this trip. Normally I would be flying out with both Bobby’s but  Bobby Figueroa is coming from New York as he had a prior commitment there this week.  I’m currently  sitting here at the Ontario airport with Bobby Z at this awful hour of 5:30am. Actually quite pretty here in California at this early of an hour though I don’t want to make a habit of it!  The rest of the guys, Ricci, Jimi and Jerry are all flying respectively out of Salt Lake City and Long Beach for a flight into O’Hare. They will be picked up in Chicago and driven to Milwaukee. So Z and I will be the first to arrive into Milwaukee today. Got to run for now as the flight attendants are not happy with me for typing as we are getting ready to depart the gate. Lets hope I have nothing exciting to note about this flight!…more soon!

Arrival in Milwaukee – Well , Z and I have arrived here in Wisconsin. We met at the baggage claim (as he had a much closer to the front seat than I had) to see if we could find our ride to the hotel. After much searching with Z toting around his B3 keyboard which is luckily on wheels (heavy!) we found our guy.  Only problem is he is also waiting for  one of the Four Lads who are also playing the Festa Italiana so we have to wait. Although how we are going to get anyone else in this van with all the stuff we have should be interesting. We waited about 10 minutes and out comes an older gentleman and woman and they are pushing an airport cart with about 15 suitcases on it. I wish I were kidding when I say that! Z and I are sitting in a 7 passenger  mini van – with his B3 and both our suitcases packed for 5 days already in the back. There is no way all that luggage and those two were going to fit in there. Our driver asks the Lad if he can come back for them while he drops us off first. Lad isn’t happy about it, but has to go with that otherwise some of his 15 pieces of luggage are not going to make the trip. Z and I are secretly happy we aren’t the ones left on the curb!

Bobby and I arrived and are greeted by this swanky art deco hotel  lobby and feel we’ve had enough of each others company for a few hours (wow that didn’t take long!) and go to our own rooms. I sat for about 30 minutes running through every channel on the TV I could – as back home I don’t get the remote long enough to know what’s even on TV any more;  before I was bored and ready to go exploring. I know when Bobby Fig lands he  will want a nice big beer cooling in a big old ice bucket so that was the next task. Deciding to brave the humidity I walked across the parking lot of the hotel next door  to  us and to the gas station on the corner  scouring the fridge sections and what do I find – no beer! I then walked across the very busy intersection to the gas station on the other corner ( I think this deserves a luggage tag by now – no?) and again, no beer! Thinking I’m in a dry county by this time (but isn’t this the Beer Capital of the World?)  I finally decided to ask someone at the gas station where is the nearest place to get some, they directed me to a place a mile down the road and I passed. As much as I love these guys, I will not walk 1 mile in 95 per cent humidity carrying a case of beer! (just lost the luggage tag rights on that I guess?)

A few hours after arriving at the hotel I went down to the pool to take advantage of the hot tub and pool.  Mind you it is about 93 degrees in the pool area but the water is like 40 degrees. And it never warmed up the entire time I was in it! Amazing how they can do that.  Z is already down there when I arrived working out in the gym. I could see him through the glass walls from the pool area. I managed the ice cold temperature of the pool for about 30 minutes before I felt like frostbite was going to set in. Z when he was done working out in the health club managed to get into the pool for less time than I did. He preferred the hot tub but since it was already a balmy 93 in the pool area we opted to sit and watch the others nearby. One of my favorite things to do is people watch and when I’m around these guys I get to do a lot of that. So if you ever run across me on one of the tours, I am watching you and yes you could end up in the blog one day! Bobby  Z sat a couple chairs down from me and we had a laugh at the guy across the pool from us who was wearing a purple Speedo and trying to get a tan from the sunshine coming through the window.  I think he’s with one of the other bands that are staying in the hotel. The girl at the front desk said the hotel was full with Festa  acts.
The sun was setting a bit later on and I was wondering where everyone else was when Ricci called the room. He was meeting the others who already made it in down in the restaurant for a welcome reception.  Bobby Fig  arrived from the airport just as I was heading down to the restaurant so we dumped the bags in our room and went back down together. For once no one had any airport drama!

Donna was our server tonight. She could tell the boys were going to have a bit of a giggle at her expense and she caught them unawares at their own game! She gave as well as she got. Very fun loving but knows when to put her foot down. Ricci told her to come to tomorrow night’s show.  We were sitting  at a table near the bar and while we waited for our dinners to arrive I noticed some of the boys giving a gentleman near the bar a couple of second looks. Z and Jimi kept trying to place his name and eventually someone realized, and I can’t remember which one finally figured it out, but it was musician/comedian Pete Barbutti  who had performed on the Tonight Show.  Ricci, as I’ve seen him do many a time, went over and introduced himself along with the band. A couple of the guys I noticed had a bit of a star struck moment and I offered to get a photo of them with him.

Thursday -  July 15th.
Today was hot! We all had breakfast with Ricci this morning in the hotel restaurant. It’s always amusing to see who is the last at the table. Jerry was the late comer today. Once we were done Ricci called to have Festa send a van over so we could all go to the fairgrounds early and scope out the layout of the stage and see where we could get the recorder set up.  We made it a field trip for the whole band. Everyone had to go. Actually everyone wanted to go as its rare on the tours that they get to do some fun stuff together as a band.  The Festival  opened at 2pm today and we got there about 2 hours early. They did let us in the gates but none of the vendors were open yet.  We are on the Harley Stage tonight a very different looking stage that had motorcycles hanging above and below each other on each side of the stage. I think someone mentioned it was the oldest stage in the park but also the biggest. I thought it would have made a great photo op for the band to all sit on one of the motorcycles with their tuxes on but no one was game. I guess the appeal of dangling from the scaffolding on a Harley 10 feet off the stage just wasn’t there.  Still the stage was large and very accommodating. We met Paul and Rick the nice sound guys who were going to take care of them once the show began. As the day was still early there was no reason for us to go back to the hotel yet. We walked around the grounds a bit to take in some of what Festa had to offer.  The lure of the beer stands was too much of a temptation for some! They had to wait until 2pm for the stands to open so we continued on our walk around the tents and more until it was time for them to clutch a cold one.  As we strolled I got a shot of the band in front of a large Venice painting to make it look the they were actually in Italy. I’ll have to crop out the sidewalk that you can see plain as day below their feet to make it more realistic! Again we continued on our trek and were stopped by a gang of Italian maidens with lovely flowers in their hair and when they found out who Ricci was asked to have their photo taken. Surrounded by the pretty girls all decked out in costumes of  swishing skirts of green, white and black Ricci and the girls took quite the nice photo!

Once 2pm did come and the beer stands beckoned the band’s name towards them we lost Jerry and Jimi.  Jerry’s  friend from the band Ambrosia (who was also playing at Festa tonight at the same time we were playing on another stage!) lives here in Milwaukee and had invited him to  his recording studio downtown.  Jimi, who always wants to see new things in town, went along for the ride too. We were just down to me, Bobby Fig, Bobby Z and Ricci now and off we went to the beer stand.  I got to have my first “Blue Moon” brewski and I have to say I’ve become a fan. Especially of the little floating orange slice that they put in the cup to enhance the flavor!  I was the only one who went for that option and the other guys were jealous and curious because I got the bonus of having the floating orange.

On our way back to the hotel this afternoon Mitch, police officer extraordinaire , excellent driver and new friend to the band gave us the history of the large highway bridge that loomed behind our stage. Rumors or speculation have it crumbling soon and they will have to replace it. Hopefully the crumbling will wait until we are all out of there and long gone!  It’s such an imposing thing when you stand underneath it, which you have to do when going into the Festa Italiana. Ricci asked if I would take a photo of him with Figgy and Z  to show the magnitude of the thing. In order to get this shot I had to crouch on the ground and shoot up. Yes folks on my knees on the cement taking a photo of a picture that may not even make it into the blog. If it shows up now you all will know the sacrifice I had to make so you could see it!

My days as a recording engineer are numbered after the show tonight. We had plugged the recorder Ricci brought into the PA system but it picked up nothing. Seems Ricci’s little recorder was way more advanced than the PA system for the fair.  My job officially dissolved I am back to band photographer.
Not everyone could agree on whether to go downtown tonight. I think majority were up for a trip downtown, but a bit of tiredness prevailed and we went to the local steak house on the corner.
The “Branded Steer” became home to not only our small group but of just about everyone who played at Festa tonight.  We saw the Four Lads there, members of Ambrosia and several others I am not yet familiar with. Definitely the place to be if you want an autograph from someone  from the show.

July 16th, 2010
Friday! And its hotter is seems today than yesterday!  The Arctic pool is sounding like a great plan right now.   However we are going to the fair grounds again this morning as we have to come up with some idea on how to get these shows recorded so we can put out a new cd.  Jimi is a wiz and getting all the technical talk with these guys so we are going to let him do his thing!
I’ll let you know the results when we get back.
And we are back! A very productive afternoon it was too. Especially the stop at the market we made on the way to the grounds. Yes we stopped before we went to the fairgrounds not after which would have made more sense.  We couldn’t keep the grocery bags in the van since they didn’t know if they would need to make a run with it for another act. We had to carry all our bags to the hospitality trailer so they wouldn’t be left in the heat. Next time they will do their grocery shopping after our excursions to the fair!  On a side note it was very amusing to see Ricci, Bobby F, and Jerry all running around the grocery picking up snacks and drinks for later on.
Back to the afternoon - AFTER we dropped off the groceries in the hospitality tent to keep cool we headed back over to our stage to see if Paul was there.  Ricci and Jimi went into technical talk and Bobby and Jerry went to check on the musical equipment.  I made myself useful and went over to the stage managers office and raided his fridge for cups and waters for tonight. We were a bit limited last night with the water and being as hot as it was and these guys wearing Tuxedo’s  I wanted to make sure we were covered. I did get a kick out of handing the band their water last night that had little sponge bob square pants all over the label. I meant to get a photo of that tonight but it didn’t materialize. I have a feeling they will avoid the camera in that case!
It looks as if Paul had a solution to the recording problem but as I know next to nothing about that stuff lets just put it that things are looking up!  We decided to spend another hour at Festa before going back to the hotel. We were piled in two golf carts and were carted around the grounds. That is definitely the way to get around there! It can definitely spoil one.  Our first stop was the Mass Tent. Every imaginable Catholic artifact you could find was in there. We walked through there and then were taken to the Opera tent which was so warm the boys had beads of perspiration gliding down them!  Seeing that everyone was in need of a shower we headed back to our hotel.

Thanks to Officer Ed who was there tonight in uniform and was so helpful to me in taking care of the band and anything we might need. Ed and Mitch are going to replace me one day I can see it!

The meet and greet tonight was spectacular. We got it in before the fireworks went off and met some really great people.

Saturday, July 17th, 2010
We gathered in Ricci’s room this afternoon so the guys could go over a couple things for the show and then stayed to watch several episodes of Animal Planet’s Whale Wars. (Ricci is addicted to this show and Cash Cab for all of you out there who wanted to know what’s on his telly) Otherwise it was a slow afternoon that Bobby Fig and I spent doing some swimming and having lunch in the hotel restaurant.
We are starting to get to know some of the other bands that are staying in the hotel. Seems the only time we can see them is here.
We got to have a police escort to the Festa tonight! Our buddies Ed and Mitch when picking up Ricci, Jerry and Jimi from the airport the other day said they wanted to give that to them as a special gift. I really didn’t expect them to pull it off. But surprise, surprise as we walked down to the lobby tonight we not only saw our van waiting for us but a nice shiny Milwaukee Police car with all its lights flaring.  We met Officer Esteban (I hope I spelled that right!) who was kind enough to give us a escort to the highway but then had to leave for real police work! Believe me the guys were totally excited to have had that much! I know I was.
I got to chat a bit with the band that came on after Ricci’s show. They came last night too to see our show and I found out that they had once been Ricci’s sister Deana’s band in Branson. They were the Bronx Wanderers and had a really cool looking guy who looked like Elvis that I ran into many times backstage. Our audience tonight also had quite a few repeat fans!  Many had been to the show the night before and had come back just to see Ricci again. One was a family with a young daughter who we were very happy to see again. Super great people!
After the Meet and Greet we were whisked back to the hotel were a very colorful Indian wedding was going full force and the lobby and restaurant were crammed with people wall to wall.  We decided to change and have our driver who volunteered to drive us over to our new favorite place the Branded Steer so we could once more have another late night dinner. They know us all by name there already since we had been there every night since we got here.  Ed and Mitch were supposed to have taken us downtown to do some fun stuff, but they both were saddled with commitments from the Festa. (boo)
I forgot to mention yesterday that we did get to record the show via Paul the soundman! I also forgot to mention that I was reassigned in my duties! Ricci found it too difficult to see people when he went into the audience so it was up to me to go out and get the questions with the mike from the people.  This would have worked well had I known certain technical aspects of the stage. Seems my swinging the mike back and forth and holding it upside down on occasions was giving off tons of feedback. They had to eventually turn me off and Ricci came into the audience. Once again fired!

Sunday July 18th, 2010
Today is our last full day in Milwaukee. We sure have had fun and wouldn’t you know it the last day was probably the most fun. I had the guys come down early to the lobby before we left for the show so I could take group and single photos of them for the Cd. We changed backgrounds many times eventually finding the wall behind the check in desk to be the most effective with the Red paint. Thanks to the girls at the Crowne Plaza for letting us crash your work area! The red looks stunning in the photos!
We then gathered at the hotel bar to have a drink and wait for our ride when we saw Micky Dolenz of the Monkees standing right next to us. He was also waiting for his ride to Festa where he was performing on the stage next to ours. Ricci went over and introduced himself and told Micky the story of how his sister Deana broke Davy Jones heart back in the 60’s. Micky actually got a chuckle out of it. The bar normally closed early on Sunday but they said if there were enough people in there after the show they would stay open. Ricci and Micky said they could arrange it that there were enough people in there.
One we knew who would not be in there that night was Frankie Valli who also was on a stage nearby ours. Mr. Valli arrived into the hotel on Sunday and didn’t have a suite waiting for him and was put in the room next door to Ricci’s. Well he wasn’t happy that he didn’t have a suite and asked the hotel to ask Ricci if he could share his parlor with him. Ricci’s parlor was small, and they would have been in each others’ way all the time so Ricci gently declined. I think ole Frankie won’t be a fan in the future!

We actually had a interesting show tonight. Too bad it won’t make the cd, but Ricci usually tells a joke during the show but this time he gave the punch line before the joke. Ahh memories, though he will deny this  (Van Halen anyone? Those of you who have seen the show will know what I’m talking about!)
Our  family of 3 from the previous two nights came back to see us again tonight with more family in tow! Also we saw again more faces that we had seen the first couple of nights return to the show tonight. Including the blonde in the striped shirt who really liked Ricci! We wished Ed and Mitch well as we knew we wouldn’t see them again for awhile. (Except for Jimi and Jerry who are getting a ride from them tomorrow back to O’Hare airport!) A shout out to Ed’s daughter Mia as well who stuck with us pretty well!  When we arrived back to the hotel we went straight to the bar to make sure it was still open and Micky Dolenz and his sister were there as well as some of the other bands from Festa. Mitch and Ed had packed us up some dinners from the nearby food vendors to take back with us so we mowed down our dinners and had some very fun conversations with everyone else in the bar. Most of us have early flights tomorrow so it was a short night and we’ve been out on the road now for 5 days so I think we are ready!  Great people here in the Midwest (as I knew there would be having come from the Midwest myself!) and we are definitely looking forward to coming back next year!

June 14th, Toronto Canada

A return trip to Canada is always welcome! Once again I’m in before the band is. They are driving in from Buffalo which is a couple hours away and Ricci I believe is stuck in Chicago O’Hare airport due to some mechanical issues on his plane.
We are back at the Stage West hotel after a few years’ hiatus and everything looks like it did the last time I was here; which is good for me as I know how to get through the maze of hallways to get to the theatre. At least if you get lost getting there you have plenty of photos on the wall to occupy your time. They hang all the performers who have played there photos on the wall and you can actually spend a lot of time looking at those which I did. Amusingly there wasn’t one of Ricci there. I’ll have to mention that to the theatre for future reference. I could find Jamie Farr and Shirley Jones though. Woo Hoo!

Pretty much tonight was a write off as when the band did get in they were tired and hungry. Ricci is still in Chicago and they don’t know when they will be able to get him here. Wonder if he’ll be here in time for the show tomorrow?  The Pack does play pretty well but I think without Ricci there the audience would be a bit miffed.
Just an observance.
I ended the evening with a good dinner in the hotel restaurant with Bobby Figueroa and Jerry Vilicich. We were joined early on by one of Ricci’s fans Andrea who had flown all the way from Winnipeg to see the show alone because her boyfriend didn’t want to go at the last minute. Big mistake boyfriend, she had a heck of a time with me and the guys entertaining her with jokes and stories. You should come next time.

Tuesday - June 15th.
Ricci made it in last night at about 1am! Yay! He called Bobby F this morning to let him know and advise on sound check time. Which was early – not fun but even worse for Ricci who was probably really exhausted but never showed it. The show was a lunchtime gig and we had to leave right after the show because we have to drive to Niagara Falls where we have a date with Greg Frewin of the Greg Frewin Theatre and Magician extraordinaire. But back to the Stage West – early sound check – this is where we realized the stage is set up for one of the musicals playing at the hotel this week. I believe the “Wedding Singer” is the production? Stage set up looked to me like a scene out of Romeo and Juliet and where the heck are they going to put my Bobby? The drums are up high on a platform way over the other guys’ heads. One slip of a drum and Jerry is gonna get it. Out cold we have no bass player. But we’ll stay positive while Bobby has to pop his ears being in the high altitude.

Sound check done, and I’m sure the catering staff is cursing me for sitting at a table they wanted to set up while I had all my notes and camera equipment all over it touching the silverware. We went to change into our stage wear. Sorry, they went to change into their stage wear, though I have entertained the thought about getting myself a tux to fit in with the rest of them after the shows during the meet and greets.
Luckily Andrea wasn’t so put off by her company the night before during dinner that she asked me to sit with her during the show. We had nice stage side seats where I could torment everyone in the band with my camera all during the show.  I tried to get her to ask Ricci a question during his Q&A session but her shyness over took her and she declined. Which means I had to ask the question! As if I don’t know the answer to this as it’s asked at every show! Mostly by me! So for anyone attending any of the future shows do me a favor so I don’t have to do it anymore Ask Ricci “Boxers or Briefs”  You’ll like the answer but I won’t tell you what it is and I know the answer every time! (wink wink)

case. Ricci had about three women in this audience that wanted to see the true result of the Boxer or Briefs question and asked him to come home with them or if they could go up to his room. Figuring he had nothing to lose Ricci shouted out his room number to the audience for anyone else who wanted to know. Just too bad that we were checking out right after the show was over and had a car waiting to take us to Niagara Falls.

Stan, our faithful driver whenever we are in town on an ARB tour was there and had some friends with him. His son and his son's friend Marina. A head turning, pretty Greek girl who Stan also tried to get to ask the infamous Boxer or Briefs question but she couldn’t do it due to modesty. (Seriously people?)

Instead of doing a Meet and Greet as we usually do as we were pressed for time we had a few people back in the dressing room while the band disassembled their equipment and packed up. One was a very nice gentleman who had drawn a caricature of Dean to present to Ricci. Marina the head turner was also very pleased to meet Ricci as I'm sure he was just as pleased to meet her. I heard a couple of rumblings around me as we walked back to our rooms to pack about how nice Greek girls are.

We had 30 minutes to get packed and out of the hotel or Stan was leaving us behind. Actually I’m exaggerating especially since I had my own car there and drove Bobby F and Jimi to Niagara Falls. They weren’t going to leave me or they would be minus a drummer and piano player for the next show. I did have to follow Stan at times so I wouldn’t get lost and I think on a couple occasions he was trying to lose me. Just kidding Stan! The drive ended up not being as long as I thought it would be. We arrived at the hotel around 4pm and had a couple hours to relax before we walked over to the theatre for dinner and a magic show.
Ricci wanted us all to walk over together, he likes to keep the band together or one of them will wander off on their own. Usually Jerry or Jimi. They like to explore – a lot! This time however Bobby and I were dragging behind and they left us back at the hotel!  Not that a walk across the parking lot is all that devastating. It was just the point of it!

Ricci, Bobby Z, Jerry and Jimi were all seated at a nice wide booth in the back of the theatre which by the time Bobby and I got there we were all sitting on top of one another. As always too because I carry the camera around in my purse it was in everyone’s way. I can tell you one thing, the boys were gleeful of having a boys night out on the road. They were all wired from being well rested, waiting for the food to come and just being guys out together. When we are out like that, I’m just one of the guys then too. That’s what I’ve been told anyways. For all you ladies out there; these guys are no different from all the rest. They tell goofy stories, curse, and gossip when they are all together. Although Ricci did say I out curse everyone in the band. Something I guess I should start being a bit more aware of, sorry all.

After our run through the buffet for our dinner (especially Z, Figgy and Jerry who were all bout to expire from hunger of course) one of the highlights of the night surfaced. I can see this is going to be a running inside joke for a long time to come. Ricci had seen a girl in the audience that looked like Marie Osmond. He had mentioned that since she went on her Jenny Craig diet he thought her a bit less cute. He liked the 'curvier' Marie. Yes folks they talked about this for half an hour! All five of them as if they were on the View or something. Whereas Jimi and Ricci preferred the bigger Marie, Z, Fig, and Jerry had no objections to the smaller Marie.  Because the topic was so discussed, Bobby Figueroa started to hum a few “salty” lines to the tune of “Return to Me” called the “Big Marie” Jerry added a few lines but they were definitely into creative mode at that point. Marie Osmond would have been shocked or laughed until she cried if she had heard this dedication to her I’m not sure. (hopefully the latter)  Ricci then informed us all quite seriously that not only does he prefer the curvier girls, his brother Dean Paul did as well. Now there’s a bit of family info for you all!

We had way too much time before the show started that everyone was getting a bit silly. From both Bobby’s doing their impressions of Ricci down to his facial reactions, to passing around the stuffed Liger Bobby F had bought for me at the gift shop and pretending to feed it drinks and popcorn to Ricci going out to the buffet and carrying back an assortment of desserts for everyone to try.

Once the show started the guys were very respectful and participated in some of the audience responses. Greg Frewin's show is incredible! If you are in the Niagara Falls area, make sure you make some time for this show. Well worth it! We were entertained the entire evening and amazed at a lot of this magic. Greg asked us all to come backstage after the show while he changed. To our pleasure he brought out some of the animals from the performance which we loved getting to meet. The little dog and duck we got to see up close. We were all fascinated too with the Tiger that was pacing its cage near us as well. I’m sure looking at us all as if we were dinner. Z actually attempted to get close enough to the cage to get his photo with it but jumped away quickly when the Tiger growled. Bobby and I got as close as we dared but I was too chicken to get too close. That creature was enormous!

Once the animals were put a way we spent a few more hours socializing with a few people we had met during the show and some of Greg's entourage near the large bar and gathering area in the lobby. Its decorated to look like you are at the circus I quite liked it! Tonight ended very late and Jerry had to leave us earlier to go back to the hotel for an appliance emergency back home. (the appliance survived!) Ricci meanwhile wanted his band to get to bed already as we have a long day tomorrow with two shows and the promise of another late evening after the second show. He piled the rest of the boys up on a luggage cart in the lobby and took them all up to their rooms individually and dumped them off. Don’t believe me? The proof is in the photos!!

June 16th, Wednesday

Two shows today!  I opted for the lie in this morning instead of the free breakfast in the hotel. After the craziness of last night I needed the sleep!
The day started off soggy. The rain came and then the show. We had a great crowd at the first show and had planned on going back to the hotel to relax for a few hours before the second show, but Greg asked if the guys wanted to participate in a video of sorts. He was doing a film shoot to advertise the show and asked Ricci and the band to participate in one of the magic tricks. We had a fabulous lunch first and then waited a few hours which might have been too long because there were 5 worn out guys who stayed out late the night before, just did a show and had a big dinner! I was fine however! (this is at total lie just so you know)
Around 4 or 4:30 the film crew asked us to come backstage to do the shoot. The set were all Greg Frewin's props for the show and the band had fun while waiting for their cues playing around with some of the equipment. The scene set up was to be that the guys were coming off stage from the show and Greg stops them to show them one of his magic tricks. The guys were pretty good - natural actors most of them! Only about 10 takes were needed. And they have their own paparazzi, me! It was fun to watch them film it.

After the filming we had about two hours to lay about which was wonderful. Ricci told us just to go over the theatre when we were ready. It was raining out so everyone could just go at their leisure. When all of us were present and accounted for back in the green room, Jerry wanted to share with us his complete version of “The Big Marie” which he had hand written on a napkin. Which if I ever get my hands on that napkin it’s going up on ebay for all of you to have a chance to bid on
Joking around that we should add a skit to the show having been inspired by Greg Frewin’s show the night before, Ricci thought it was a great idea. He wanted it to be sort of like the old  Rat Pack shows from the days in Las Vegas or the variety hour. Something silly, but funny. And guess what Jo, you get to be in it!  Well that wasn’t my intention but I wasn’t getting out of it either.
The  plot turned into this:  Ricci was going to do an “illusion” of his own. He and Bobby Figueroa who came down from the drum set right before the Q&A were going to make Bobby Z disappear. They pulled out a black cover, held it up in front of Z and when they dropped it voila it’s ME sitting at Z's keyboard proudly displaying  one of the Ricci Martin cd's (for sale after every Ricci Martin show immediately after the show. See moi for details). Then they pull up the cover again over me and voila there is Z back at his keyboard. Neither of us hiding the fact you could clearly see our feet scuffling on and off the stage. Ricci takes a bow feeling pretty smug at his “Illusion” and there is Greg Frewin standing on the other side of the stage in full costume shaking his head at Ricci's pathetic “illusion”. Which got the audience laughing even more. I have to say I thought there would be crickets out there thinking we were the silliest people alive, but it really worked. Thank you to everyone who laughed!

Post show was another very lively affair. Many friends and colleagues stayed after the meet and greet in the circus lobby and once again we stayed up quite late socializing with everyone. Ricci, Z, Jimi and Jerry have very early flights tomorrow. Bobby Fig and I are driving back to Michigan in the morning and have the luxury of having as much time as we need. I am moving to California this week and we are to stop at Ricci's home in Utah for a few days which I'll also give a report on later on!
June 23rd - 26th - Ricci's Home, Utah

Wednesday -  Bobby and I arrived in Utah early afternoon on the 23rd of June after driving half way across the country. Pulling up to Ricci's gate was such a nice relief after staying in an assorted selection of hotels the previous days and seeing nothing but corn fields for 2 states. Our first couple of minutes there Ricci took us down to the guest house which sits right in front of a flowing river amongst an assortment of trees and I instantly fell in love with the grounds. The sound of the river raging near us was so peaceful!
Ricci took me on a tour of his gorgeous home which sat only a few yards from the guest house. Bobby had been a guest previously so he knew the lay out of the house already. It was already late in the day and we decided that it was time for dinner so Ricci took us into town and bought us a nice dinner in town.  He seems to be very well known in his small town and they all love him to pieces it’s quite obvious by the few people we met in some of the nearby shops.
After dinner it was getting late and Bobby and I had been driving since early that morning so we just wanted to get some sleep. Arriving back to our quarters in the guest house we turned down the bed only to reveal a Dean Martin throw to keep us warm at night. Very cool. For those of you who love Ricci’s dad it was quite the experience as we also found a stash of Dean’s favorite cologne stored in all kinds of array in the back room a couple posters on the wall framed and stuff like that. So cozy and warm there just like a home away from home!

Thursday -  We headed out - early for us - late for Ricci as he's an early riser to see the sights of Park City and have lunch at a sushi bar. Bobby and Ricci just loved watching my face as I had some sushi for the first time. (Even though both say technically I didn’t have any as I had some kind of chicken!) The Sake was top notch however! We then drove into old  Park City where you can see plain as day the Olympic rings on one of the nearby Mountains from the 2002 Olympics. And did I take a photo of it, no, that’s how into I was looking at everything around me. My preference was to spend some time in town and do the girl thing and see the shops. The guys would have none of it. While we drove around both of them would dive into stories of some of their mishaps in that town. They both had me roaring with laughter telling me about a time they drove back on snow covered roads from a show they did in Park City back to Ricci’s. Wayne Tweed was with them still then and his musings on the scenery around them while Wayne was serious had the rest of the band in stitches. Especially his musings about how boring it is to be a cow. Talking about Wayno gave us the idea it was time to give him a call. Ricci called him first and asked him to get on the internet so we could Skype chat with him. For those who want to know, Wayne is doing very well and looks fantastic. We chatted with him on the computer for about an hour and every one of us was having a trip down memory lane with him. Retirement agrees with him!

After we got off the chat with Wayno, Bobby and Ricci went out to ride the monster which is what I call it. Some kind of off road vehicle that has 6 wheels and no steering wheel but sticks that go back and forth to drive it. I’m sure Ricci will correct me here and tell you all what it is. I let those two run around in it while I chased around Ricci’s pooches Taco and Grizzabelle. When the boys got tired of mowing the yard down with the monster, Ricci prepared the barbecue for dinner. We watched a couple episodes of Cash Cab as dinner was being put together and I can tell you  Ricci and Bobby would make good contestants in case anyone from the show is reading this.  Chef Martin was making for us  Steaks and his famous blue cheese lettuce wedge salad. Also on the menu corn on the cob with a dab of milk in the boiling water which I was informed makes the corn a bit sweeter!  Ladies, he can sing and cook...great combination you know!

Friday  -  Our last full day at Ricci’s he suggested we do something off the wall – for us anyways.  He suggested we go bowling. Now, I've been moaning to Bobby for months that I want to go bowling and he never felt like it. Once Ricci suggested it he was all for it. Must be a competition thing with men I don’t know. I was the one that was mouthing off what a good bowler I am only to regret it later. I can verify, yes they both reminded me of it too. We went to the new alley in Park City and had the place pretty much all to ourselves. It is very modern and bright and had a very eclectic menu that included  Kobe Corndogs! (I’m still amazed by that) Instead we ordered the best Guacamole and chips I’ve ever had – and – at a bowling alley of all places! Would make a lovely place to go for dinner!

We played three games which seemed longer because the first game Bobby kept trying to change balls. He liked the weight and feel of the pink ball but didn’t want to use a pink colored ball. Again, boys! The new ball must have worked for him though because he won the first two games and Ricci the last one. I won't mention scores, its too depressing, mostly on my part. I'm a bad loser.

Still fairly early in the day when we got back to the house Ricci had talked Bobby into coming into his home studio to lay down a track. It was just the guys playing around at recording something but turned into an all afternoon event. Ricci is very creative in his studio and he got Bobby to record "Their Hearts were Full of Spring" by double tracking himself. I watched the proceedings while I walked around the studio looking at the photos on the wall of Ricci's brother in law Carl Wilson and Dean Martin's gold and platinum records hung next to where I was sitting. Its sometimes things like that remind me Ricci doesn’t have the normal boring family. I do forget at times believe it or not even when we are on the road!

Ricci had a lot of fun altering Bobby’s voice on the mixing board. My favorite was when he made him sound like  Soul Train's Don Cornelius. When the recording was over  and they were satisfied with their work we headed back into the house and put in a pizza in the oven. Wayne must have been thinking of us talking about him earlier in the day because he called to tell us to go back on Skype chat. We did another hour on the internet with him while Bobby and Wayne serenaded each other with guitars over the internet.

Saturday -  Bobby and I were kind of sad to leave  - but all good things do come to an end and we had a long drive ahead of us still. Ricci had gotten up early that morning to mix the cd he created of Bobby singing so we could listen to it in the car. He gave us the directions on how to stop off in Sundance on our way out and we know it will only be few weeks before we see each other in Milwaukee incidentally I get to go too! I’ve been assigned a job!
More on that after it happens!

February 25th, 2010
Largo, Florida

I was faced with the decision back in December to do either the Tioga or Largo dates for Ricci’s February shows. Seeing that the Northeast was having such a dreadful time with the winter weather I thought it was time to head south so here I am in Largo, Florida.
Its getting close to 11pm now and Bobby Fig and Bobby Z have just landed in Tampa International Airport after a very long day of cancelled and delayed flights. I just got the call from Bobby F and they are tired and hungry. Good thing Ricci picked them up some dinner from the steakhouse we walked over to earlier. RibEye’s for the tired guys should make them all better!

I got in early this morning since the weather was threatening to act up in Michigan and other parts of the Eastern seaboard and wanted to avoid all that. I had a good few hours of watching movies, “Ghost Town” with Ricky Gervais is very entertaining, reading and walking around the area before the rest of the band arrived. Ricci, Jimi Seville, and Art Sanchez all arrived around 5:45 pm and I watched out the window as they milled in with the arriving bus load of college baseball players also checking in. Art is here to fill in for Jerry who had another commitment and couldn’t make this date. I had met Art previously on a project he’s worked on with Jimi and Bobby F and he’s a super great guy. Wish we could have him and Jerry there together all the time! I ran down to the lobby to try and catch the guys before they all wandered off to their rooms to give them the status of Bobby Fig and Z. Ricci was happy I had made it in and said he and the other two guys were going to take a walk over to the Ballas Steakhouse around the corner from the hotel we are staying in and said I should come along. Not one to pass up an offer of a hot dinner – especially with such charming company as those three I headed up to my room while the boys went to theirs to freshen up after their flight. We met downstairs about 20 minutes later. It was a nice 10 minute walk over to Ballas Steakhouse and Ricci updated me on all the new things going on with him and some of the new shows they are working on for the future. (Lots coming soon so keep an eye on the tour dates page!)

When we arrived at our booth in the restaurant we were serviced by Cindy who was extremely nice and very attentive and also by Jamie who came by on a few occasions to check on us as well. We closed the restaurant tonight. Ricci, Jimi and Art had taken several photos with the staff who had all come over to talk to Ricci and find out more about the show.
I left the boys when we got back to the hotel (while all the baseball players ran around us with pizza boxes in their hands cramming the two elevators for long stretches of time) so they could go up to Ricci’s room and rehearse a bit with Art in preparation for the show.

February 26th, 2010
Show day! Both Bobbys got in safe and sound last night and were very happy to see a nice dinner awaiting them when they arrived. Much rested from the night before we all had a few hours before sound check was due to begin. Bobby F and I did some walking in the nearby area and although it was nice and sunny it was a bit on the chilly side. Jimi and Bobby F also spent the afternoon trying to use the business center in the hotel while the coaches for both baseball teams used them to print out their lineups which caused quite a back up on the computer!
At 3pm Rob, the promoter for the Largo Cultural Center came to pick us up and because Z and Art had their equipment he brought the van over from the Cultural Center so we could fit everyone and their stuff on the ride.
It was a running joke in the van that the boys wanted Rob to turn on the emergency flasher lights on top of the van for them. (They did get their wish later this evening – silly boys)
Sound check this afternoon went smooth as silk. As this was Art’s first go around with the show he did really well and you could tell he was enjoying himself. As a matter of fact, all five of them were in incredibly good moods. As the photos will show from today everyone was relaxed and smiling a really happy and relaxed bunch of men. I’m really happy with how much fun it shows they are having.

After sound check and a filling lunch provided by Rob and his crew we headed back to the hotel where we had more than an hour to get ready for the night’s show. First person waiting in the lobby for the ride to the venue was Art. Looking cheerful and ready for the night the other guys advised him next time he fills in again for Jerry he would need to pick a color. If you notice in some of the photos all the boys have a different color hanky on their tuxedos.

During the show tonight there were some very boisterous fans in the audience. Lots of audience participation between Ricci and the crowd from Largo and sometimes happening outside of the Q and A session! Of course we knew this meant that there would be a very lively Meet and Greet after the show as well. We were not disappointed in the least!
We had quite the selection of fans waiting to get their photos taken with Ricci. Ricci even took a couple of minutes to watch some of the Olympics with a group of fans that was being televised on the large screen television near the banquet hall in which American speedskater Apolo Ohno was competing.
I want to give a special hello to some of the fans that stayed through the entire meet and greet and afterwards to chat with Ricci, the band and myself. Super special people they were! Hi To Karen, Helen and Leo! We hope we get to see you all again soon!
Once we had made sure everyone had a photo and Ricci’s cheeks were covered with lipstick we waited for Art and Bobby Z to pack up their equipment so we could go back to the hotel and have our dinner that was waiting for us. We decided to have dinner in the atrium of the hotel where we were amongst both winning and losing baseball teams all waiting for their own dinner to arrive in the form of pizza cartons. Jimi, Z and Art all offered their extra breadsticks to the hungry boys and they were eagerly snatched up with a muffled thank you from two of the tallest members of the team.
Since everyone but Ricci has a 5am lobby call the next day we all headed to bed to get a few hours of rest. It was a very quick but exciting trip with loads of nice folks in the Largo area.

February 27th, 2010
I had a much later flight scheduled than the boys did this morning but decided to take a ride to the airport with them in case I could go standby on an earlier flight. There’s nothing as sad to me as to watch them all leave when I’m still at the hotel. I jumped in the van with Bobby F and in came Bobby Z and Art. We waited about 5 minutes and there was still no Jimi. No one was moving and I finally said, maybe someone should go call him in case he didn’t get up yet? Finally Z got out of the van and called Jimi and sure enough he did not get his wakeup call. Within 15 minutes Jimi rushed out of the hotel with his bags hastily packed and tossed himself in the front seat of the van. The guys all ribbed him endlessly on the drive if they missed their plane it was Jimi’s fault. Jimi realizing he can’t go a year without being the blog story sucked it up.
When we arrived at the airport the band was already running a bit behind and fretted they wouldn’t make their flight. This was further daunted by the excessively long line for security. Every time we went around the posts and saw Jimi they would jokingly threaten him on what they would do if they missed their flight.
Jimi was safe however when we got to the gate their flight was in the final stages of boarding and they all got on no problems. I watched through the window as they departed – on time- and waited for my own flight which I did get confirmed on for an earlier departure. Always sad when the trip is over but always very good memories!
Looking forward to the next gig!

Hi All!

This may be my longest blog yet! A week on the road sure brings out a lot of fun and goofiness with both the band and the fans so I hope you enjoy reading as much as I had doing it all! Also, I’m going to let loose finally and just let it flow. Some of you ladies I met at some of the shows accused me of holding back too much. (Especially you gals in Niagara Falls!) I’m hoping this one is more for all your taste!

Toronto – June 17th-20th.
Wednesday - On our way back to merry old Canada!
Driving once more to Toronto and the weather is not cooperating again for my drive. Should be gone however by Friday and since we are to be inside for sound checks and show days it’s alright. I really need to avoid the 427 in Toronto next time during rush hour though! Canadians are just as feisty on the road as us Americans in that kind of traffic! Tonight we are at the Valhalla Inn because the Old Mill is doing some banner business and sold out. Ricci, of course being the star of the show is already at the Old Mill most likely in his suite or dining on some of the wonderful salmon they serve over there in the dining room. I’m really jealous!
I had dinner with the Bobby’s in the Valhalla’s restaurant. Both finding it amusing when going through customs that they blanked on the name of the hotel and could only come up with the name the Val Kilmer Inn. Customs must have gotten a good laugh out of that one! Jimi and Jerry are due in much later. Closer to midnight. Jerry has now been brought on as Wayne’s replacement. Wayne just wanted to retire and take some time for his family. Can’t say better than that. You’ll be missed Wayno!

Thursday - Bobby, Bobby, Jimi and Jerry are loaded up between my jeep and Tony’s Chrysler. (Tony is the promoter from ARB) On our way to the Old Mill! Can I just tell you how much I love those rooms there? The linens are spectacular! I almost decided to stay in my cozy room instead of going down to see the band rehearse! Early afternoon rolled around and its time for soundcheck. Only problem is where is everything? Seems the backline is missing. After we all questioned a few of the staff in the showroom we find out the backline is upstairs in the green room. This included monitors, the drum set and things like that. The company that dropped it off was long gone and no one was there to get it down for these guys. So out comes the manual labor! The band and I hauling the incredibly heavy monitors, the drum kit which was in pieces down a couple flights of stairs and through a whole array of tables and chairs. (No, they didn’t put me to work. I offered and wouldn’t take no for an answer!) I would have taken a photo of it, but they were all a bit grumpy about the extra workout so I decided it best not to add to the fire. A half hour later once everything was put back together and adjusted Ricci got them going and they managed through a very long but light hearted soundcheck. Right before soundcheck began Ricci introduced me to his beautiful girlfriend Raquel. She and I got on quite well from the get go and instead of watching the guys perform their soundcheck we chitchatted the afternoon away getting to know each other. At one point Ricci had even joked to me that I should be doing my photo taking for the blog in which I told him I was too busy socializing with Raquel. Having another female around was such a joy for me. Not that I don’t adore the guys or anything, but it was such a wonderful difference to have Raquel there and for someone to girl gossip and giggle with during the show, before and after. She was even sweet enough to help me out during the after show meet and greet. Everyone really liked her!
Tonight’s Meet and Greet I had some of the most colorful characters come to the table. Hello to Helen and Joann! I believe it was Helen who came to the table and told me that she thought Ricci looked more like Peter Lawford than his own father or Jerry Lewis! (A joke you would get if you were at the show!)  The Meet and Greets are always great fun. The band, Raquel and I all capped off the evening in the jazz bar near the hotel lobby. What a great place this is, decorated in the old English Style. We overtook the small room in the back and Jose our barman made sure to take extra special care of us. I recommend Jose for a raise! Best barman ever! Friday - The sun finally poked its head out today! Great day for a drive. Ok – this is where I come clean on something. Wendy, who gave me grief at the Meet and Greet tonight and reads my blog regularly – Hi Wendy! – said I have got to tell her how I get to travel around a bunch of men without anything going on. Ladies, as you now know I’m not dating Ricci. I however, am dating Bobby Figueroa and have been for some time now. I do think of the rest of the guys in the band as my big brothers however. They all tease and hover over me in that way so we are a big family! Or as Jimi said to me once, “Jo, we think of you as one of the guys too”

Back to Friday adventures now. Bobby and I thought it would be a perfect day to go for a drive downtown. I’m not a fan of driving anyplace downtown in any city, so I gave the keys to Bobby and he called Jimi to see if he wanted to come with us. Jimi had been wanting every time we come to Toronto to see downtown. Well he got to see plenty of it. It was just too bad he didn’t get to experience much. We spent most of the ride in the car stuck in traffic and construction. We only had a limited time we could spend away from the hotel because there was another show and a quick sound check for them again to make sure nothing was moved from the night before. So although our trip into town was fleeting, we did see quite a bunch just from inside the car. The CNE Tower, the art museum, theatre row, hockey hall of fame all viewed from the inside of the car. We did find a very cute pub on our travel back to the hotel where we stopped off for a late lunch. I find the parking meters there really convenient but at first confusing. Imagine the scene if you will. Bobby, Jimi and myself figuring out how to get the ticket to print to put on the car. It took us 8 minutes to finally procure a ticket. I’m sure there was a joke in there somewhere if someone looked at us long enough.(a blonde, a Mexican and a Nicaraguan went to a parking meter…)

Hamilton- Jun 20th – 24th

Saturday – Also known as travel day. Ricci left the hotel a bit earlier this morning to send off Raquel to the airport. I was losing my comrade for the rest of the trip but was glad I got to spend the time I did with her. The rest of us left the hotel around noon arriving not too much later at our hotel in Hamilton. We are to be here for 4 nights. There is a private show tomorrow and another day off on Monday which we’re not sure yet what we want to do.
As it is Saturday, and most of the businesses around us are closed it looks really sparse out there. Bobby, Jerry and I headed off to the grocery store since we found out that they close at 8p.m. We stocked up on some munchies, lotto tickets and then over to the wine store where I picked up some really great Niagara-on the-Lake wine. The band is restless tonight. After two great shows in Toronto they are feeling really good about themselves, as they should and want to keep rolling. We are all on the 7th floor here just a couple of doors down from each other. Ricci shouted out to us as we all went to our rooms that we should all do dinner out tonight. A great suggestion, but we only had my car, a Jeep Compass, to get around in. I can fit 5 maximum in it. The boys are clever though you know? Jerry offered to sit in the hatch area on the way there. It was only a couple of minutes down the road to where we were going so he had no issues with it. I find it funny that the tallest guy in the band rides in the back! Poor Jerry! He loved every minute of it.
We spent a very long time at Jack Astor’s restaurant. The tables had the paper coverings on it where you can draw on them with the crayons provided. Everyone added their own touch to it. Great to see a bunch of grown men who travel the world in the entertainment industry drawing with the crayons! After dinner we stuffed Jerry back in the hatch and drove on back to the hotel. It’s late and everyone wants a full night of sleep for tomorrow will be an early call for sound check.

Sunday – Private Party.
We left early today so we could get over to the home of the owner of Carmen’s banquets for their special party. Their home is absolutely beautiful. The outdoor party was being set up when we arrived with the clouds looking a little threatening. We made it okay with only a few drops hitting everyone during sound check. The backstage area was the game room in the house supplying a gym, table hockey, pool table and some pinball machines. The guys were like kids in a candy store. Bobby Z priding himself on being a table hockey king. Which he must have been because he was doing a victory dance after beating Jerry and Jimi.
The show went perfectly until the last 15 minutes or so. Quite suddenly there was a power surge and all the power went out. It was out for a good 10 minutes too. Ricci improvised by going out to the audience and chatting with them while they worked on restoring the power.

When we got back to the hotel tonight, it was still fairly early. The guys wanted to play poker and we had asked the hotel if we could use their conference room to do so. They turned us down stating that they use it for the continental breakfasts in the morning and they didn’t want us to mess it up. What?
Ricci invited us all over to his room where the card party was forgotten since there was just no room to have it, and instead we all brought over our own drinks, and snacks and had a bit of a laugh. All the guys admired Bobby Fig’s Nike sandals he was wearing and as they were passed around from guy to guy and ooh’d and ahh’d over with Ricci even going so far as to look them up online to see if he could order a pair. Let me tell you ladies, they are just as bad as we are when they find something they like. Monday - (Day off) everyone wanted to go to Niagara Falls today. It’s a 40 minute drive from where we are staying so I wasn’t sure what to do since we still only have one vehicle. Once more the boys saw no problem in all piling in. Jerry once more volunteered for the hatch duty. We stuffed the back with pillows and jackets so he could be as comfortable as possible being squished in the back. We drove directly to the Niagara Casino parked the car and headed outside so we could all get a view of the falls before we went back inside and tried our luck at the slots. Jerry wasn’t interested in the casino and was dying to take in a view of the Falls so we told him we’d meet him back at the Buffet in the casino around 2pm. Jimi and both Bobby’s and I had a drink at the bar and then scattered into the casino to try our luck. Within 10 minutes of leaving him Bobby and I ran into Ricci who had already won 250 dollars on the Wheel of Fortune game. About a half an hour in Bobby Fig won 200 bucks on the Tabasco game and an hour later Bobby Z won about 500 bucks on a machine that featured a bear of all things! Jimi and I, not so lucky. Jimi’s a better loser than I though. I grumbled and moaned for half an hour straight about losing 20 bucks. Cheap, yes that’s me. Because Z. was the big winner he offered to buy us all lunch at the buffet which we gladly took him up on. Once Jerry had caught up with us at the buffet and we were all fed it was time to head back to Hamilton. Jerry didn’t even have to see a view of the Falls when we drove by (after several backseat drivers directing me where to go to see it) from his hatch seat as he had taken a boat ride on the Maid of the Mist while we were all immersed in the winnings.

Bobby F, Ricci and Jerry took my car so they could go to the store. Jimi and Bobby Z were done for the night. Bobby I’m sure to regale in his winnings to the Missus.  About an hour after I had left my car to their mercy I got a call from Bobby F. telling me to come down to Ricci’s room. He, Jerry and Ricci were all sitting around hashing the day out talking about old times and stuff when we started talking about Wayno. “We should call him” I told Ricci. He agreed, and we called Wayne all shouting out hello’s and the guys shouting some friendly derogatory comments since that is what guys do when they are friends. Wayne sounded great, missed everyone and was glad we were enjoying ourselves. Thanks for the Beatles video Wayne! (Get Back – jo jo) Ricci treated the three of us to a late night dinner at Crabby Joe’s down the road and since I had too much Niagara-on the-Lake wine during the memory lane talk, I decided to sit in the backseat and let Jerry who was raring to go, drive us!

Tuesday - Today was a really early day, and I’m afraid tomorrow will be even earlier. We had a 1:30pm show to be ready for. The guys brought their stage clothes with them so they wouldn’t have to go back to the hotel which was only about 20 minutes away, but it was just easier to stay right from rehearsal. Ricci opted to go back to the hotel where he could change there and have a little down time. There was an auction being presented on the main floor here at Carmen’s and after looking through some of the nice things being offered up, I headed off to the dressing room to see what everyone was up to. Jerry was nowhere to be found, Jimi had his feet up on the table relaxing, Bobby Fig was also just having a breather and then there was Bobby Z. Spread out amongst four chairs snoozing away.
Jimi calls me one of the guys, and as much as I do feel like that most times, when it comes time for them to get changed, I’m not sticking around. Ricci had come back already dressed for the show and had asked for another dressing room since the room we were in did not have a rest room. We were taken down to the Michael Douglas suite which was a lot brighter and had a bathroom. Ricci wanted to make sure no one closed the room up on us during the show so he decided to switch the Michael Douglas suite into the Ricci Martin Room. He became Ricci MacGyver when he devised a plan to have a sign tacked on to the door over Michael Douglas’ name with cocktail toothpicks.

Before the second show we were told by the promoter that there were some special people in the audience. A table full of true Italian old school guys and Brian Melo the Canadian Idol winner. They all stayed after the show and Meet and Greet tonight for about an hour’s worth of photographs, chatting and smoozing. It was actually one of the more crazy scenes I’ve been to at a Meet and Greet but everyone was having such a great time and I was no exception. After a quick dinner for all of us in Jerry’s room that Carmen’s packed up for us we had to get to packing and ready for an early morning wakeup call tomorrow and our drive to Niagara Falls.

Niagara Falls Jun 24th -25th.

Wednesday – We were out of the hotel this morning by 9a.m. All of us very tired but excited to be heading to Niagara Falls again. We arrived at the Greg Frewin Theatre at the same time as the fire department did. It seems they had a wayward Fog Machine that was going haywire and set off some of the alarms in the building. We were introduced to Cooper the stage manager who took really good care of all of us. In fact, Cooper should get a raise too, I insist! Actually everyone we met who worked here was nothing short of fabulous. What a great bunch of people. We had an excellent lunch at the Theater before the first show as we had to wait to check into our hotel until after 1pm. The staff at the Greg Frewin is wonderful. Courtney, Tammy and Rose took care of us, thank you ladies so much!

After the first show Bobby, Jerry and I were a bit too wound up from the morning to just go relax in our rooms like everyone else did. We wanted to see a bit more of Niagara Falls and headed out from our hotel next door to the theatre and walked the streets of Clifton Hill since we were so close. We spent a good two hours out and about but it was really hot and muggy and after taking another look down at the falls we headed back to the nice air conditioned hotel.
The second show was packed full and the signings after the show were the busiest I’ve ever seen after one of Ricci’s shows! There were ladies (and a few gents too) everywhere. And I can liken it to a mob scene of the friendliest sort. A shout out to some of the nicest ladies and biggest Ricci Martin fans I met tonight, Lisa, Cheryl, Johnita, and Roseann! You all with the help of everyone else there made it one of the most fun nights on the trip!
Thursday- Everyone was up early today. Ricci was out the door first since his flight was the earliest. Bobby and I had breakfast (at a very full breakfast area full of families) with Bobby Z, Jerry and Jimi. Everyone exclaimed how good of a trip it turned out to be but were looking forward to going home to their families. I headed back out in my Jeep for a nice rain free drive back to Detroit with about 200 pictures in my camera from the week. Maybe some of you will see yourselves in some of the photos!

Hi Everyone!
I’ve been gone for a little bit but I have another new blog update for you on the recent trip to Canada!
I headed out on March 25th in the early afternoon under a partly sunny Michigan sky. My drive to Vaughn was roughly around 3 ½ hours and by the time I arrived to the hotel in my little Jeep the skies had grown overcast and the early spring rains had decided to greet me.

After dragging my bags through the puddle laden parking lot I arrived in the midst of some type of tournament conference in the Hilton’s lobby. There were people everywhere and I needed to find a phone to call someone in the band to make sure everyone had arrived. Finding the phone in the midst of a large group of people I couldn’t reach, I was lucky enough to run into Bobby Figueroa who had taken a walk downstairs to check out the restaurant area. We walked back to the elevators after finding the restaurant much too crowded for any conversation and he told me about his plight going through customs.

It seemed where as Jimi Seville was teased last time they came to Canada, that this trip was going to be Bobby’s turn. Bobby had come through customs with Bobby Z., but was held up because his paperwork looked different. In the end he had the right paperwork, and they apologized for the delay but not without the kindly lady behind the customs desk giving him a flirtatious wink and a smile. The band later affectionately and jokingly gave him the temporary moniker of “the convict”.  He turned to me at one point and asked me, “This is going to make the blog isn’t it?”
Of course it is!

The promoters for the show this trip were Sergio and Alessandra. They are wonderful people and took the whole band and myself to a lovely Italian dinner where we had the restaurant to ourselves. We all stayed quite late enjoying the company and the meal with a fabulous dessert to finish it off. Since we were all heading back to the same hotel, I gave some of the guys in the band a ride back to the hotel including Ricci who teased me about making sure my windshield wiper didn’t fly off the car as it had before I set off on my journey to Vaughn. I never should have told any of them that story since I’ll never hear the end of it now!

The following morning we all met for breakfast in the hotel restaurant which Ricci kindly picked up the tab for. He wanted to go over a few things with everyone since Jerry Villicich was there in place of Wayne Tweed. Wayne had to skip the trip due to family obligations.  I had met Jerry before on one of their Ohio dates two years prior and was pleased to find that his wife and I have relatives from the same area in Michigan.

That afternoon they spent a good couple of hours going over soundcheck. Everyone sounded spot on and I knew that the show that night would please everyone.

Once back at the hotel Bobby F, Jerry and I split a pizza for a quick dinner and then we all went our own way to have some downtime before show departure.
I wanted to check my email before I got dressed for the shot and found myself in the business center of the hotel alongside Jimi and Jerry who also were in there checking their emails and chuckling about past gigs they had worked.

At the show that night which was a charity event called ‘Boost’ everyone was dressed to the nines in the audience as well as on the stage. During the show I had seen a few of the couples dancing off to the side of the stage and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.

After the performance Ricci came out to sign the cd’s he brought with him and to chat and laugh with the audience members. This is always a highlight for the crowd because they will stay there for long intervals talking with Ricci and the rest of the band about various things and everyone is always enthusiastic when they meet them.

By the time we left the Bellvue Manor that night, it was close to midnight and everyone was tired but had an extremely fun night. The band and I all fell into the limo waiting to transport us back to the hotel exhausted and since everyone had early flights the next morning (except for me!) we all hugged one another goodbye until June where we will all be meeting once again in Canada for a fabulous week long tour! Hope I get to see some of you there then!

Hello Ricci Fans!

This next installment of my travel blog takes us to Las Vegas and the very gorgeous Suncoast Hotel and Casino in Summerlin, Nevada. I had caught Ricci and “the Pack” there last summer on my first trip out to Summerlin and loved the hotel! When I found they were playing again this year I immediately booked my flight for a return visit.

Las Vegas Nevada, May 16-19th, 2008

May 16th, 2008 – I had arrived late the night before to a very steamy Nevada evening. I was informed by the hotel desk clerk when I checked in that the band had come in much earlier and were probably tucked into their beds as my arrival at the hotel was a bit past 1a.m. After a very well rested few hours I was greeted by a very bright and sunny morning, the windows from my room reflecting the tropical pool 3 floors below.

Feeling my empty belly rumbling I went down to the Casino restaurant with Bobby Figueroa where he treated me to a wonderful breakfast in the cafe! I asked to follow Bobby around the gaming floor for a few hours where he very patiently showed me how to play electronic Poker and Keno. Although I’m sure he didn’t expect me to become a gambling prodigy I was worse than expected. I left empty handed, but I sure had a lot of fun playing making sure I went back often to try again. He then talked me into coming over to the horse betting area where he showed me how to wager on the races, but in the end I was only picking the horses with the cute names with only mild success.

That afternoon was the band’s sound check. The Suncoast’s room is set up in a half moon style with three levels of tables and padded booths that reminded me of photographs of old Las Vegas showrooms I’ve seen. The backdrop was black with a very roomy stage and plenty of room for Ricci to do his leaps during “That’s Amore”.
While the band arrived and began to tune their instruments, I was introduced to Ricci’s daughter Montana. Ricci and Montana were getting to spend some special father/daughter time together on this trip which I thought was absolutely fabulous. She was very shy at the beginning and has the most beautiful smile! Both of us girls stuck around to watch the band run the show in a full rehearsal which ran a bit longer than usual because of all the joking and teasing that went on between them.

Jimi Seville was greeted once again with his new moniker he received on the last trip, Bubbles. Always a good sport, Jimi laughed with the others while they called him that He even commented that at least he didn’t miss rehearsal this time for a soak in the Jacuzzi like in Toronto when the name was bestowed upon him. Jimi wasn’t the only one to be razzed; they all ribbed each other good naturedly with even Ricci being on the receiving end a few times. They also casually threw out one liners which every now and then make it into the show. For example Wayne’s quest to always find another Sam to throw into “Sam’s Song”. Most nights he uses Sam Giancana but he’s always looking for another one to throw in there.

Once rehearsal came to an end we all had time to catch an early meal. A pre-show dinner was enjoyed by me and Bobby F. in the fabulous buffet right there in the hotel. It was seafood night and the selections were overwhelming! So much to choose from I didn’t know where to start! Joining us midway through dinner were Bobby Zarate and his lovely lady Janie who seemed to be enjoying the buffet just as much as we were!

Once dinner was over and everyone needed to get ready for the evening’s show we split up and were to meet in Ricci’s room at 7pm so we could all walk down together. Everyone arrived fairly prompt and we got a chance to take a few photos while waiting for hotel security to arrive to escort us down to the showroom. We were taken down in the service elevator, a big steel shiny box that looked as if it could hold 50 people. We walked through the back hallways, past the kitchens down several sets of steps to the secret entrance of the showroom. This was very exciting for me in an odd way because it gave me a feeling of what it was like for the performers and bands of long ago and how they would have to sneak in to get to their shows.

I was privileged to be able to sit with Bobby Figueroa’s sister and brother in law Friday night. They live in Las Vegas and came to see Bobby perform with Ricci’s band for the first time! Friday night’s audience was probably of the three the most wound up and vocal. I say that in the most positive of ways. The Q&A session was a bit longer and the participants a bit giddier. Ricci relayed to the audience on his stroke of luck that morning on one of the slot machines and the tidy little sum he won on the jackpot. I sure could have used some of that luck and will have to remember next time we are all in Las Vegas to have him lean up against one of my machines to see if his luck rubs off!

It was during the Q&A that Ricci had Montana come out from the stage wings so he could introduce her. A little hesitant about it that first night, Sunday she had it down and was a pro at gliding out on stage and giving her Dad a smooch. The band had even decided after Friday night’s show that she should have her own theme music play as she walked out and promptly put together a little ditty for her…“Satin Doll”.
Ricci had left pretty quickly after the show was over since he had extended family in the audience that night. Bobby Z, Wayne, Bobby Figueroa, and Jimi all attacked the spread laid out for them in the green room refusing to waste so much good food. They all had sandwiches stacked several inches high that they were taking back to their rooms for a midnight snack!

May 17th, 2008 - Saturday morning was another blazing hot day in Nevada. The pool, I observed from my window was the place to be in just such heat. I packed up my sunblock and a pair of sunglasses and joined Bobby Figueroa out on the sundeck near the pool. Lucky for me the bartender at the poolside bar had the Stanley Cup Playoffs on the TV and kept me updated on the score of the Detroit/Dallas series. (I’m a huge hockey fan!) By early afternoon however, the sun was just too hot and my team didn’t win that game so I slunk off to drown my sorrows in a blueberry pie at the buffet along with Jimi and Bobby F. (Who are not hockey fans, but had sympathy for me.)

Saturday night we were minus Wayne on our walk down to the showroom from Ricci’s room. He told Ricci he wanted to take care of some things before the show, and by the time we reached the backstage area, found out what it was. Wayne was holed up in the dressing room with a huge plate of food from the catering table having a pre-show meal! We caught him in mid chomp, and he endured some hearty ribbing for it. He commented afterwards to the boys that at least he wasn’t going to be the one starving after the show.

The show, spectacular as it usually is even had a celebrity in the audience that night. Elvis was sitting amongst the fans and even asked a question during the Q&A. Actually it was a Elvis impersonator who was a huge fan of Dean Martin and seemed to be really excited to be there.
By the time I arrived back in the green room the other guys must have taken Wayne’s words to heart since they were all stacking cheeses, pickles and assorted meats on several stacks of bread wrapped up in napkins to take up to their rooms.

May 18th, 2008 - Sunday began pretty much as Saturday had down at the pool. Bobby and I returned to the sweltering air outside the hotel, to cool off in the bathwater temperature water. This only lasted an hour before we were all ushered to the side while they set up for a Polynesian Party around the pool surface. Jimi had heard the music from his room and had come out to see what it was all about and joined us at our table to watch the colorful dancers and performers. We were treated to some Polynesian food, and some more recognizable fare such as hot dogs and hamburgers. We spent quite some time out there watching the festivities before the full sun got to be too much and I wanted to relax before show time.  Bobby and Jimi headed off to the horse race wagers while I headed up to my room. Jimi doesn’t gamble, but he was curious about how Bobby went about picking his horses. Bobby is usually pretty good at picking horses, but I think he only broke even on them that day.
At Sunday evening’s show, and a very packed house it was that night, I was surprised to run into some familiar faces! Longtime friends of the band and fairly new friends of mine were Daniel and Marilyn Rutherford. I was so pleased to see them and knew the rest of the guys would be as well.

I knew it was a probability that Ricci would leave right after the show was over so he and Montana could spend more quality time together, so I brought Marilyn and Daniel backstage so they could say hi. Ricci, Wayne and Bobby Figueroa all go back to the late 60’s/70’s with Marilyn and were very surprised to see them since they had driven over from the Los Angeles area without telling anyone. Lots of hugs and kisses later it was show time and Daniel, Marilyn and I went back to our seats in the showroom. I sat with Janie in the second row and we giggled out loud during the band intros when Bobby Zarate came out in his sunglasses to take his bows. Ricci got a standing ovation all three nights and I got to hear lots of positive murmurings in the crowd as they departed. Most of which were usually on Ricci’s great voice or how young he looks and what a fantastic show he puts on.

Janie and I headed backstage and I asked Marilyn and Daniel if they wanted to come back again too. They joined us and as expected Ricci and Montana had already left, but the rest of us that were there stayed to enjoy the buffet in the green room and chat about how great the weekend turned out.

Monday morning I was on my way back home to Michigan with a nice little suntan and a big smile on my face.

Toronto, ONT Canada. March 27th-28th, 2008;

            Hello Everyone,
Thursday, March 27th 2008 - On our first stop on the road we arrive at the Old Mill Inn and Spa in Toronto. The band having arrived from the west coast the night before, were well rested and I’m sure ready to get show day moving.

Upon my arrival at the beautiful Tudor style hotel nestled into a park like setting in the midst of Toronto I found a very quiet lobby with a roaring fireplace burning. Off to my right as I entered was Jimi Seville checking his emails on the hotel computer! I waved hello and headed on up to my room.
The band had a two night engagement in the Main Dining Room beginning that evening; which upon my inspection at lunch later that afternoon, would give diners a very intimate and up close performance of Ricci and the band. The tables flanked the stage on all ends so I knew everyone would have a great view after they dined on their meals.
Around 5pm the band had gathered for their sound check. I hadn’t seen them since the Florida tour back in January and lots of hugs and kisses soon followed my arrival, and I even got a few too!

While the sound men set up the stage Wayne Tweed, who is the real new father in the band showed all of us photos of his new daughter on his ipod. (An inside joke you would know if you have seen the show!) A short while later they were all on stage warming up the equipment getting ready to test that everything was good to go for later on. Wayne is the perfect Musical Director. He loves to rehearse. In fact when they do the whole set in rehearsal he’s the most eager to get it done. Seriously, he’s the most eager to have it done, the sooner the better; especially when there is a warm dinner waiting to be served to them in the adjoining atrium.

I was lucky enough to share dinner with them and it was superb. The Salmon there is the best I’ve ever had. If you ever get there, be sure to try it. Ricci joined us for a short while, but he doesn’t eat before the show, ever.  Bobby Zarate, or Z as he is known in the band, made sure that Ricci’s portion didn’t go to waste and wrapped it up for an after show treat. Z however didn’t stick around for dessert because he needed to go get dressed for the show and was very disappointed to find out later that he missed out on a chocolate something that everyone left at the table devoured. Bobby Figueroa ate mine since I was way too full to eat any more!

A quick departure from the dinner table and everyone made their way to go don their tuxes for the evening; except for me that is. I don’t particularly look good in a tux, so I opted for business casual. They do however all look very handsome in their evening attire. Next time you attend one of Ricci’s show, take notice of all their handkerchiefs. They all wear different colors. Although if you want to know the color of Wayne’s you will have to ask him since everyone else has a different name for the color he wears. My personal opinion is eggshell. Before each night’s show, the band convened up in the Green Room which sat above the diners in a loft type setting where they went over a few minor details pre-show.

The Lighting and Video crew was based up in this loft and had a clear shot of the stage for the spotlight to shine down on Ricci. This first night the crowd was a bit quieter than the second night, but had produced some of the most interesting questions Ricci has been asked during his Q&A sessions. (You will just have to attend a show to hear some of the interesting questions and some just as interesting if not humorous answers. Telling them here does not do it justice!)

While the band took the stage I plotted where I would plant myself so I could take photos. Next to the Green Room was an unused balcony that must be used when the adjoining conference rooms are full. It was ideal for me to view the show, the audience reaction and be out of everyone’s way. I was however not the only one up there enjoying the show. Several members of the staff joined me at various points of the evening, probably even a few that shouldn’t have been taking a break to watch the show unfold. I heard several of the female staff sighing and gushing over Ricci. He definitely had his own fan club up in that balcony for the evening.

Things were going well that evening until right after the intermission. A loud crash thundered down from the Green Room right before Ricci took the stage again. Running over to the steps from the Green Room to the stage I was a little hesitant to find out what it could be. Having all sorts of bad images of the band splayed all over the steps with trays of food poured on them crossed my mind but had come to see that the large spotlight had tumbled down and was now unusable. The setback was this was the only spotlight they had for the night, so the second show was a bit on the dark side. The audience didn’t seem to mind as most of them were already relaxed and had a few cocktails. Being that the room was pretty intimate as well made this not such a miserable second half due to the lighting issue.

Friday, March 28th – The day began pretty slow. The temperature outside still felt like winter and there was still some snow on the ground but I was feeling a little claustrophobic. I assumed that everyone in the band would be hibernating in their rooms since all but Ricci are not used to the harsher winter climates. I personally thought it would be a wonderful day to take a drive downtown and I asked Bobby Figueroa to accompany me. We had a really great Fish and Chips lunch at one of the many Firkin English Pubs in the area. We also hit major rush hour traffic on our way back to the Old Mill Inn and arrived pretty close to 5pm. On our way back in we took a stroll through the main room to see that all the sound equipment had been broken down from the night before, and well knew that could cause a problem with that night’s show if everything had to be readjusted again. Bobby called Ricci and they agreed that they should have an impromptu sound check just to make sure.

Everyone showed up at sound check but Jimi Seville. They waited about 20 minutes and still no Jimi. I volunteered to go see if he was up in his room and to let him know they were waiting for him. I could hear some noise from the inside of his room, but no one came to the door. I went back to my room and called him. Jimi answered the phone pretty quickly and immediately explained he had been sitting in the Jacuzzi tub taking a bubble bath!
When he explained this to the band when he reached the sound check, he was promptly nicknamed “Bubbles” Seville with Bobby Z providing bubble noises on the B3 for effect.
After a very quick sound check we had another tasty dinner in the atrium where this time Bobby Z did not leave the table until he got his dessert. This time they provided us with some custard type of confection which he and Wayne made whiny noises about wanting something with chocolate. It must have paid off because only a few minutes later they each had a chocolate cake in front of them.

The Friday night audience was one of the best I’ve seen. I missed most of the Q&A since a couple who had come the night before had come back to buy a CD. The performance was already half over so I brought them up to the balcony I had been watching from and let them finish watching the rest of the show. With a fairly crowded balcony full now with wait staff, and attendees of a bridal shower who had stolen in from the next ballroom I crawled back to the Green Room where I watched with the lighting crew.

At the end of “Smile” the closing number of the night (And one of my favorites performed in the show) I headed over to the merchandise table, where I can usually be found when I’m in attendance to meet a whole bunch of you. I’m the one that collects your money when you buy the CD’s. I should let you all know however, that if you do want a CD you need to get to the table early. They usually sell out pretty quickly as we did both nights, so if you plan on getting one, head over quickly. And if you do want to meet Ricci after the show, he stays until everyone has gotten through the Queue and had their picture taken, autograph signed or just to say hi.

Special Hello’s go out to fans Lee and Sue who told me they came to the show with chains on their tires to make sure they didn’t get caught out in the snow! Also to Alex and his lovely lady who came for both nights so they could get pictures since she forgot her camera the first night. It was great meeting you all!

Next stop in May: Las Vegas!
